What's NEPQ method?

The NEPQ method, also known as the Nonviolent Communication Empathy Process, is a communication technique developed by Marshall Rosenberg, a psychologist and mediator, as a way to improve communication and resolve conflicts peacefully.

The NEPQ method involves four steps:

  1. Observation: This involves describing the situation or behavior that is causing the conflict in a factual and objective manner, without adding any judgments or interpretations.

  2. Feeling: This step involves expressing how the situation or behavior is making you feel, using "I" statements to take responsibility for your emotions.

  3. Needs: This step involves identifying the underlying needs or values that are not being met by the current situation or behavior.

  4. Request: This step involves making a specific and actionable request for how the other person can meet your needs in a way that is mutually beneficial.

The NEPQ method is based on the idea that conflicts often arise because people are not communicating their needs and feelings effectively. By using this method, individuals can express themselves in a way that is more likely to be heard and understood, while also showing empathy and understanding for the other person's perspective. This can lead to more effective communication and ultimately, more peaceful and productive relationships.
